Michelle Clements, Principal at Sharon School, honored as West Tennessee Middle School Principal of the Year

At Sharon School, the halls are filled with energy, excitement, and a tight-knit sense of community, something that has been carefully crafted under the leadership of the school’s principal, Dr. Michelle Clements. Realizing the impact of that leadership, Clements has been named the West Tennessee Middle School Principal of the Year by the Tennessee Association of Secondary School Principals (TNASSP).

Dr. Clements was nominated for the award by Sharon School Vice Principal Beth Davidson, who praised her leadership and the lasting impact she has on both students and staff.

"Dr. Clements is more than just a principal—she is an inspiring leader who transforms lives every single day,” Davidson shared. “She values her staff like family, encouraging us to grow as professionals while always reminding us to prioritize what truly matters. She leads by example, thinking outside the box to create new opportunities for our students and encouraging us to do the same. This award reflects her unwavering commitment to education.”

Dr. Clements is known for her out of the box thinking that has transformed the school day for Sharon School. According to Davidson, one of the most impactful initiatives has been reworking the middle school schedule to include daily physical education, focusing on solutions rather than problems. This change has helped students stay engaged and focused throughout the day, while also improving their overall well-being.

Betsi Foster, Assistant Director of Schools, praised Dr. Clements for her innovative approaches and ability to bring out the best of those around her.

“Dr. Clements is an outstanding leader who puts her heart into everything she does for her students and staff. She excels in creating a positive school culture in which everyone thrives,” shared Foster. “We are thrilled to have her in Weakley County, and this award is a well-deserved testament to her leadership.”

Jeff Cupples, Director of Schools, also expressed his gratitude for Dr. Clements’ contributions to the district.

“Dr. Clements exemplifies what it means to be a great school leader. She has created a school culture where students feel valued, teachers feel supported, and learning is at the heart of everything,” said Cupples. “We are incredibly proud of her and grateful for the work that she does every day.”

Weakley County Schools celebrates this well-earned recognition and looks forward to seeing the continued impact of Dr. Clements’ leadership on the students, staff, and families of Sharon School.
