Get ready for a whirlwind of laughs and mystery as "The 39 Steps" hits the Weakley Playhouse stage next weekend. With a cast of four students playing over 150 characters, this production combines elements of a Hitchcock thriller with Monty Python humor that promises laughs, mystery, and fun.

Starring Jeremiah Britt as Richard Hannay, Emily Scott in multiple roles, Samuel Butero as the mischievous 'General Nuisance,' and Bryson Boyd as the lovable 'Useless Layabout,' the play showcases the dramatic talents of Weakley Playhouse's student performers.

Jeremiah Britt, who plays Richard Hannay, describes the production as one of the group's most ambitious ventures yet. "From makeup to costume changes, to stage visuals, this is the craziest show we've ever done. Physically demanding in a way we've never experienced onstage," Britt said.

Bryson Boyd and Samuel Butero agree, emphasizing the creative freedom Director Martin Kane has granted them.

"We've had so much involvement in the making of the show. Director Kane has allowed us a lot of creative freedom, and that's been so much fun for us as actors," Boyd acknowledged.

Butero added, "It’s been an opportunity to learn a lot in the process about what works, what doesn’t, and how to build a show. Honestly, it’s been an amazing experience. It’s brought us together as a cast."

Acting in "The 39 Steps" requires both mental and physical skill, according to Emily Scott.

"There's a quick shift from costume to costume, and that shift is needed when you're transitioning into each new character. It's been fun exploring my characters' personalities alongside the dynamic of the story and interaction with the group."

Britt also praises Director Martin Kane for his impact on the theater group.

“Mr. Kane is an inspiration to us as a group. I plan to go to college and major in Theatre because of the inspiration and impact he’s made in my life. Because of his work and support, students who would’ve never considered Theatre before are involved and love it. He gives 100% to everything that he does each day. He’s fostered an environment that’s safe, supportive, creative, encouraging, and fun,” said Britt.

Westview High students can catch a special in-school performance on February 9th, while public showtimes at the Westview High School Theater are set for February 9th at 7 PM, February 10th at 2 PM and 7 PM, and February 11th at 2 PM.

General admission tickets for "The 39 Steps" are $5 and can be purchased in advance online at www.weakleyplays.ludus.com.
