Greenfield Teacher Linda Farmer has been recognized as an outstanding educator on the Southeastern Conference [SEC] Network’s Extra Yard for Teachers segment. The distinction also includes a grant award to the school.

Farmer was nominated by Greenfield School graduate Tess Darby, who has been a student at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and Lady Volunteers Basketball player since fall 2020. In the nationally available “SEC This Morning” Network segment that aired on September 15, Darby shared the positive impact that the teacher made in her life while she was a student at Greenfield School.

“Ms. Farmer has such a love for passion and teaching math. She helped prepare me so much for college and is why I chose finance as my major. I could not be more thankful for my hometown, my community, and Ms. Farmer,” Darby acknowledged.

The SEC, in tandem with the College Football Playoff Foundation, honors teachers as part of its Extra Yard for Teachers Program. Each week, an educator is highlighted on the air for playing an exceptional role in the life of a student-athlete. In addition to the on-air tribute, Greenfield School will be awarded a grant to be used for the purpose of school supplies and materials through Donorschoose.org.

To apply, Darby nominated Farmer and composed an essay about her positive influence as an educator. Her essay was selected from many applicants to receive special recognition.

The recognition segment for Ms. Farmer aired on Friday, September 15, at approximately 7:45AM and 4:45PM. The segment will also be posted to Weakley County Schools’ social media channels as soon as it is available.

Greenfield Principal Jamie Doster is proud that Ms. Farmer is receiving the appreciation.

“Ms. Linda Farmer is an amazing teacher. She inspires her students, pushing them to achieve more. I’ve often heard students comment that Ms. Farmer’s class is one they don’t want to miss. She sets high expectations and standards for each student, and in return, they know that she cares about each one of them and their success. She is constantly working behind the scenes with a dedication to helping students that inspires all who know her. Congratulations on behalf of all the students, faculty, and staff at Greenfield School,” said Doster.
