This is the image for the news article titled Sharon Christmas Pop-Up Shop Allows for Gift-Giving & MoreWhen school started, Sharon students learned they would be receiving SOAR bucks for good behavior, good grades, reaching Accelerated Reading (AR) goals, and acts of kindness. On Wednesday, they had the chance to spend those "bucks" on items in a special pop-up shop set up in the school gymnasium.

Safe, On task, Always Achieving, and Respectful provided the parameters of how these Sharon Eagles could soar toward a day of purchasing items for themselves and others.

Principal Michelle Clements followed the Dresden Middle School’s model of a Christmas pop-up shop after seeing it set up last year.

The first shoppers of the day were first graders who had earned that position by their strides in improving attendance. As the shoppers arrived by class, they received instructions and were paired with faculty, Beta Club members, and/or volunteers who helped assist with their purchases.

“Most are buying for mom, dad, dog or brother and sister,” observed Whitney Abernathy, the school’s secretary. “And many are not using all their cash but instead saving it for January.”

After selecting their items and ensuring they had the appropriate cash to cover them, the students then moved to a gift wrapping station organized by Ali Salter, a Sharon city board member and parent.

An hour into the morning, the mood continued to be jolly as student Quenten Long enthusiastically declared, “I love Christmas shopping in the Christmas store!”
