Weakley County principals and district office staff were asked, “What is your hope for 2020 related to your role with Weakley County Schools?” The following are some of their replies.

“My hope for 2020 is that our students will continue to develop a love of learning. Developing a firm foundation is vital in the overall success of all students.” – Tracey Bell, Martin Primary principal

“I hope Dresden Elementary continues to grow leaders by focusing on academics, extra-curricular activities, and life skills needed for success.” – Melanie Needham, principal, Dresden Elementary

“I pray that we can continue to work on our positive influence within the community. It starts with how we treat each other in our building and hopefully that will spread into our households and out into the community. I also hope that my faculty, staff, students, and parents know how much I appreciate them and pray for them daily. We make up a small part of the Weakley County Schools family. We will continue to strive to make our small part one that shines a positive light on all that we have to offer in our school, town, and system.” – Patresa Rogers, principal, Martin Elementary

“I hope students understand why their education is so important and that their teachers and staff are here to help prepare them for high school and beyond and that each student can reach their full potential.” – David Lewellen, principal Dresden Middle

“My hope for 2020 is to continue to work towards creating a school with a positive school culture where students value learning, value self, and value others.” – Michelle Clements, principal, Sharon School

“My hope for 2020 is that our students enjoy coming to school, be actively engaged in learning, and leave us prepared for high school and beyond. My role is to motivate and provide teachers with what they need to effectively teach.” -- Jon Gardner - MMS Principal

“My hope in 2020 is that our community, county and elected officials will continue to recognize the value of public education and local community schools. Public education is not about politics, it is about a basic fundamental right that all children should have and our teachers are to be commended for their unwavering dedication to the profession. Each community school in the county has a unique identity that helps build the character of the overall school system.” – Lee Lawrence, principal and athletic director, Gleason School

“Weakley County Schools will continue to expand educational opportunities for all students. This expansion will focus on individualizing student learning to prepare students for future academic and career success.” – Randy Frazier, Director of Schools

“I hope to leverage Federal funding to do more to enrich the school day for each student. From small group instruction for struggling readers to advanced coursework for high schoolers, my hope each year is that I can be the best steward of Federal dollars for our students. Specifically, I hope to designate more funding to the support of robust science lab experiences for our students.” -- Betsi Foster, Federal Programs Director

“My hope for 2020 is that we continue the year observing significant growth within our Tier 2 and Tier 3 students receiving Reading and/or Math interventions in each of our schools RTI programs. I plan to offer training and support for building leaders and intervention teachers, as well as monitor our progress data regularly to ensure this goal is achieved for our district and that our students are successful.” – Jessica Wade, District RTI Coordinator

“I look forward to continuing to collaborate with the administrators and teachers to give our students the best math instruction available.” – Megan Moore, District Math Coach

“As we look to 2020, my vision for the Safe Schools program is to continue to expand and enhance the means and methods utilized to create campuses where students and staff are able to safely learn and work. This will be accomplished by welcoming Dresden High School’s SRO to the fold in March; piloting the “Handle with Care” program which will foster communication between law enforcement and other first responding agencies, mental health providers, child care providers and schools; additional training for Youth Mental Health First Aid and Safety Care; seeing a continued decrease in the number of bullying/harassment/intimidation incidents, as well as a decline in the number of other disciplinary infractions.” – Lorna Benson, Safe Schools Coordinator

“My hope for 2020 is to continue empower our teachers to inspire their students to reach their highest potential. What a rewarding job it is!” -- Terri Stephenson, Elementary Supervisor of Instruction

“My hope for 2020 is to be able to increase my support to teachers and administrators in the role they play daily for all of our students in Weakley County. I consider it an HONOR to be able to support the hard working educators in our district.” - Donald Ray High, Secondary Supervisor of Instruction

“My goal for 2020 is to be able to continue working with children, parents, and school personnel to achieve the goals that students have for themselves. I hope to continue the expansion of our transition initiative for students with disabilities.”– Deborah Perkins, Director of Special Education

“SERVING AWESOME FOOD TO OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF. Updating Sharon School’s dining room with new tables, updating equipment at Greenfield and Dresden Elementary, and upgrading a to a new breakfast kiosk at Sharon.” – Trista Snider, School Nutrition Director

“As we move into 2020, Coordinated School Health is excited to seek out grant opportunities to help fund more physical activity for students during the school day. We are working on getting sensory paths in all Elementary schools. These allow students to have a break from class to go out into the hallway and do activities that are on the ground and wall. We are also investing in the Walking Classroom, which are mp3 players that have podcasts on them that students can listen too while taking walks outside or around the school building.” - Bethany Allen, Coordinated School Health Director

“My number one goal every day is to keep our children safe so I would say that I hope for a safe second semester. I hope that we can stay involved and make a difference in some of our children's lives.” – Ron Byington, Director of Transportation
