This is the image for the news article titled Jacket Hive Expands for Christmas ShoppingThanks to the efforts of Greenfield’s junior high teachers, students enjoyed a chance to spend their hard-earned “Jacket cash” on items for themselves or those they loved. And according to seventh grade teacher LeeAnn Usery, many were choosing to focus on others.

Junior High teachersMatt Butler, Usery, Anna Bryant, Tiffany Crouse, and Hal Blackman either shopped for, displayed or helped oversee the purchasing of items in this year’s Christmas pop-up version of the ongoing Hive, the store that allows for purchases every nine weeks. Principal Jeff Cupples and counselor Sherry Page joined in the fun and volunteers and other faculty assisted with the wrapping of gifts.

“Cash” is earned by acts of positive behavior that live out the school’s focus on Integrity, Respect and Unity; attendance; and academics such as reaching Accelerated Reading (AR) goals.

“Students come in with $5 to $100,” Usery noted. “But they have earned much more than cash. They have gained money management skills and learned the consequences of positive actions.”

The store has been opened for three years and the Christmas pop-up shop was first introduced last year.
